As a major academic research institution, with an international reputation in musculoskeletal procedures, Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi in Milan already had in place the scientific and clinical expertise for a regenerative medicine center of excellence. The ambulatory nature of regenerative medicine procedures, however, had led to many being performed off hospital premises. This in turn resulted in variable outcomes, failure to collect or organize clinical data, patient confusion and other negative consequences.
